The BYD Sealion 6 DM-i breezed through its Australasian New Car Assessment Program or ANCAP safety tests by scoring a maximum 5-star rating.
ANCAP based its ratings on the testing of the BYD Seal-U (basically the battery electric version of the Sealion 6 DM-i in Europe). In Europe, the Seal-U scored a 5-star rating with a 90 percent rating in Adult Occupancy Protection, 86 percent in Child Occupancy Protection, 83 percent in Vulnerable Road User Protection, and 77 percent in Safety Assist Technology. However, to confirm that the results can be extended to the plug-in hybrid variants, additional frontal offset (MPDB) and oblique pole tests were conducted.
It’s a test that the Sealion 6 DM-i performed in very well resulting in an 88 percent Adult Occupancy Protection, 86 percent Child Occupancy Protection, 83 percent Vulnerable Road User Protection, and 75 percent in Safety Assist Technology.
In a 50 km/h crash test, ANCAP found that the passenger compartment of the Sealion 6 DM-i remained stable. It showed Adequate protection for the lower legs of the driver, while protection for all other critical body regions for the driver and front passenger was rated as Good.
That said, the front structure of the Sealion 6 DM-i posed a Moderate risk to occupants of an oncoming vehicle test (it’s not that compatible in a vehicle-to-vehicle crash) and as a result, it was docked a 3.82-point penalty.
In the full width frontal test, protection of the driver dummy chest was Adequate, otherwise Good protection was offered to all other critical body regions for both the driver and rear passenger. In the side impact test, protection offered to all critical body regions of the driver was Good. In the oblique pole test, chest protection was Adequate, with Good protection for all other critical body areas.
Autonomous emergency braking as well as a lane support system with lane keep assist (LKA), lane departure warning (LDW) and emergency lane keeping (ELK), and an advanced speed assistance system (SAS) are standard.
The Sealion 6 DM-i joins the Dolphin and Atto 3 as 5-star ANCAP rated vehicles.
Chinese car brand standards go up to meet global standards (Euro and Australian NCAP). Meanwhile Japanese car brand standards (Asean NCAP) go down to beat Chinese brand pricing. This is too bad.

2) Raize and Sealion are of different categories, hence different target market. if you're just comparing "Toyota Quality" vs BYD, you could have chosen a car close to Sealion 6, like Corolla Cross. you are not a market of Sealion 6.
3) this article isn't about quality, it's about safety of one vehicle. it's been more than a decade to see 5-star ratings to make it a norm. 5 is always expected. Jimny is the most odd for existing with less than 4 stars in 2024.

this "Toyota quality" is unfair. Toyotas have a quarterly PMS schedule (4x a year) vs other brands that have semi-annual or once a year schedule.

DeleteDuring warranty period i only brought my toyota to casa for pms every 6 months, after warranty once a year pms but still in casa. Never mind those dealerships who always calling you every 3 months for pms, its more of a highway robbery.

DeleteToyota's PMS schedule depends on what kind of oil you avail. If you get mineral oil, you'll need to visit 4x a year. If you opt for synthetic oil, you can visit 2x a year.
