MG Philippines Opens Reservations For Cyberster EV Sportscar


After previewing it nine months ago, MG Philippines has opened reservations for its Cyberster EV sportscar.

Designed to commemorate MG’s 100th anniversary, the Cyberster draws inspiration from MG’s heritage of producing fun-to-drive, two-seater sportscars such as the MG TC Midget and MGB. This two-seater sportscar offers distinctive touches that call on the brand’s rich history, while combining that with a contemporary design.

Envision by SAIC Motor’s Advanced London Design Studio, the Cyberster features a distinctive low nose, curvaceous rear haunches, and a Kammback tail (a trait where the rear slopes before being abruptly cut off with a vertical or near-vertical surface). Further adding to the drama, it not only has a power soft top that folds up or down in just 10 seconds, but power actuated scissor doors as well. At each corner are 20-inch alloy wheels and Brembo brakes.

The low-slung proportions of the Cyberster are made possible by a new, bespoke electric vehicle architecture. The handling is fine-tuned by Italian Formula 1 engineer Marco Fainello who worked in Scuderia Ferrari from 1997 to 2004. Fainello also worked on the likes of the Ferrari FXX-K, Ferrari 458 GTE, and Ferrari 488 GT.

Confirmed for the Philippine market, the Cyberster comes with a single powertrain, and MG’s gone for broke and installed the high-performance powertrain. The dual motor setup allows for a combined 544 horsepower and 720 Nm of torque. MG quotes a 0 to 100 km/h time of 3.2 seconds (faster than even the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N) thanks to its all-wheel drive setup and launch control. Top speed is an even 200 km/h.

With a 77 kWh (74.4 kWh usable) lithium-ion battery with a Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese (NCM) cathode, it has a range of around 400 kilometers. With its 400-volt architecture, the MG Cyberster takes around 40 minutes for a 10 to 80 percent charge using a DC fast charger (85 kW rate), or 8 hours using an 11-kW AC charger.

Features include a wraparound three-screen layout, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an 8-speaker Bose sound system.

Price is set at a cool P 4,500,000.

  2. I believe why China automakers can price their cars as cheap as possible is because they take shortcuts. This is scary for quality and reliability is not their priority. They just keep on building cars and keep selling. You can drive and use them for a few years but they're not safe to keep for a long period of time. Buying chi Eze cars is OK as long as you replace them after a few years, maybe 5.

    1. The quality,reliability and safety of Chinese vehicles are miles better now than those made in Thailand and made in Indonesia 3rd world poverty spec Japanese vehicles
      Chinese vehicles are meant to sold globally now and the standards of Chinese car buyers are way much higher than from SEA region,

    2. Not sure if we agree with you, have their been any recalls lately or cheating design flaws with Chinese cars, Toyota/Lexus and other brands have been flooded with recalls. Cheap Chinese cars are correct because they have been very efficient in their manufacturing and design which has kept cost at bay while the rest of the world have not.

    4. Sorry but I have to disagree. Just look at Toyota for example. Why won't Toyota export made in China Toyota outside China while they export Toyota from other parts of the world?
