At the 2024 Paralympic Games, Toyota is celebrating its Start Your Impossible campaign—its first-ever global initiative that emphasizes the power and strength of community. In Asia, 11 athletes were chosen and one of them is two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo.
Yulo won back-to-back gold medals for the Men’s Floor Exercise and Men’s Vault.
It is considered as the largest victory ever by a Filipino athlete since the Philippines joined the Olympic games a century ago.
We sat down with Yulo, who traveled back to Paris, to watch the Paralympic Games as a global Toyota Start Your Impossible ambassador. We didn’t exactly have a lot of time (about 15 minutes or so), so we were only able to squeeze in one question; one question which we thought would be very relevant to you, our CarGuide.PH readers.
We asked him: what are you going to do with your brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado when you get it?
Yulo revealed that he’s very excited to get behind the wheel of his new P 4.8-million (not including the paint job) luxury SUV. With three colors available—Black Mica, Avant Garde Bronze, and White Pearl Mica, he chose White Pearl Mica. We say it’s perfect because it fits his understated personality.
Yulo confirms that he will get it “real soon” making him one of the first owners of the 2025 Land Cruiser Prado in the country. After that, he says, “Balak ko po i-break-in agad [I plan to break it in immediately].”
He admits that he’s not really a very confident driver right now, preferring to take ride hailing services to get around Metro Manila. However, he plans to change all that by taking his new SUV on a long road trip with his partner Chloe San Jose. Of course, he didn’t exactly disclose where he’s going, but he did say it’s somewhere “up north.”
Yulo also plans to enjoy his brand-new Land Cruiser Prado stock before committing to go the aftermarket route. If he does, however, he plans to go for an off-road or overlanding setup since he’s always been wanting to go car camping. This is quite surprising because it’s a hobby also enjoyed by our other Olympic Gold medalist, Hidilyn Diaz!
Carlos, we hope you enjoy your brand-new Land Cruiser Prado. Truly, you’re an inspiration to the entire Philippine nation. And to our friends and colleagues in the off-road and overlanding community, you know who to budol next.
Is he going to jump the line? OFWs also bring pride to country for several decades but dont get "special treatment" like others do. Sigh!

Of course he's going to get special treatment and deservedly so.
No offense to Caloy but obviously you are a non-OFW and feeling entitled for speaking like that. The individual OFWs are making sacrifices for their family and country, blood, sweat, tears (life and limbs in some instances) for more than decades. Collectively they are a major contributor to the annual GDP. The govt leaders keep on milking them thru all kinds of fees. Like athletes, its about time their sacrifices get seriously recognized too.

DeleteThis practice helped keep the economy afloat particularly during the past hard times. That is a fact whether you like it or not.
Their sacrifices to family and country are probably not as high profile like the Olympics, but they should equally deserve recognition (individually or as a whole).
Ofws are not double Olympic medalists, Yulo is. Therefore he is entitled to all the prizes given to him.

DeleteFor family, yes. For country? Give me a break. Based on how affected you are by this article and my comments, I think it's safe to assume that you are or were an OFW. Now let me ask you this, would you still have chosen to be an OFW if the pay weren't higher or if you had better opportunities here at home? I don't think so. You chose to do so because the monetary compensation is/was greater than what you could ever earn here. I am not judging you for your choices because i would probably do the same if my circumstances were different than what they are now, but please do not insult our intelligence by claiming that you did it for the country.
