BYD wants your attention and they could very well have it with the all-new Seal. The world’s best-selling New Energy Vehicle brand (and the Philippines’s best-selling EV brand) now has enthusiasts in mind with this 530-horsepower all-wheel drive sports sedan.
As a member of the BYD Ocean family, the Seal follows the same Ocean X motif seen in the Dolphin and Atto 3. Of course, the sporty feel has been dialed up and this has made it an award-winning design. It received the iF Design Award. It’s also a finalist for the World Car of the Year—the first and only Chinese brand to do so.
The headlights have a Double U-shaped design which are staggered to give depth. The taillights are arranged in a dot matrix style and runs through the entire tail giving it an unmistakable high-tech flavor. Bi-color 19-inch alloy wheels complete the look.
The Seal uses the BYD e-Platform 3.0—the same flexible architecture used by the Dolphin and Seagull. But to show just how brilliant this platform is, essentially, the entire thing’s had a shot of adrenaline with double the motors and double the driven wheels. In total it makes 530 horsepower and 670 Nm of torque with a 0 to 100 km/h time of just 3.8 seconds.
More than that, the Seal uses the batteries as an integral part of the body. This Cell-to-Body (CTB) construction means the batteries are basically the meat to the platform sandwich enabling the chassis to have high levels of torsional rigidity. In plain English, it makes the Seal as smooth and refined as more expensive luxury cars.
The Seal also has frequency selective dampers giving it the best of both worlds—sharp handling and a comfortable ride.
And when things get a bit hairy, advanced software called Intelligent Torque Adaption Control or ITAC will distribute power intelligently eliminating skids and most important of all, unlocking the full potential of the powertrain.
More than just raw power, BYD’s 8-in-1 electric powertrain means improved energy efficiency and packaging. Combine that with a large 82.5-kWh battery and its range is an impressive 580 kilometers. The BYD Blade battery pack itself is thermally-managed meaning dependable performance day in and day out. What’s more, you get a 6-year warranty for the motor and an 8-year warranty for the battery for added peace of mind.
Inside, the Seal has the cabin attitude to match its sporty driving. It’s all about providing an immersive experience. Things start out with the one-piece front bucket seats. It’s optimized for comfort and feature power adjustment and even built-in ventilation and heating.
The center console gets the familiar rotating screen, sized 15.6-inch in this case and for the driver, a 10.25-inch full color screen and a Heads-Up Display.
As always, majority of the Seal’s controls are in the touchscreen, so it’s great that BYD’s integrated gesture controls to help you move around with a couple of swipes. Or you can rely on the intuitive BYD Assistant—one of the best, snappiest voice command systems in the market today.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard and they’re wireless. Of course, that means devices can be charged on the dual wireless chargers.
Other features of the BYD Seal include the DiPilot Advanced Driver Assistance System that makes driving safer and stress-free. This bundles tech such as AEB, LDW, LKA, BSD, RCTA, and Adaptive Cruise Control. All in all, this is a car that’s garnered a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating.
Finally, like every BYD, you also gain access to the BYD App allowing you to check in your Seal’s status with just a few taps on your smartphone.
BYD Cars Philippines has been successful in bringing electrification to more Filipinos. The Seal continues does that and do much more.
Of course, being a BYD expect long-term peace of mind with its once-a-year PMS. And because it comes with a free 7-kW wall charger and a free portable charger, topping up the Seal means up to 70 percent savings versus refueling. Plus, you can have access to a wide network of around 100 charging stations provided by ACMobility.
By offering an EV with a performance bent, they’re announcing to the world that they’ve now got something for people who love the thrill of the drive. With the BYD Seal, every trip is guaranteed to be exciting. It’s born to perform, designed to electrify.
The BYD Seal 3.8S is priced at P 2,548,000.
Catch the Seal first at the EV Summit on October 25 to 26 at the SMX Convention Center in MOA. Or you can check it out at your nearest BYD dealership. Visit www.bydcarsphilippines.com to know more.

“Leather” seats are questionable, it doesn’t smell leather at all!
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell is up with crazy horsepower these days and at these prices?! Kawawa na mga ICEs sa performance
ReplyDeleteI dont usually like Chinese cars, but I gotta admit when compared to a Tesla or similar EV's, this thing is a bargain! Would put many sportscars in the dust at this price point too!
ReplyDeleteThought they would follow Sealion pricing. Instead they went back to being overpriced just like the Atto 3. In Thailand, they were already giving 500k worth of discount since the initial pricing of Atto 3 was overpriced, similar to ours.
ReplyDeleteLook at it this way.
ReplyDeleteYou're rich, but not THAT rich.
You want a disposable daily driver that's very quick and has good performance. You do not care about parts since you'll be replacing it in 3 to 5 years.
Then this car is the perfect product for you.
The Seal is the flagship sedan of BYD that is well accepted worldwide. The same company that sold 3M+ units in 2023 as the no. 1 NEV brand and the no. 9 top car manufacturer in the world. They sold more than 1M+ vehicles in the 3rd quarter of this year alone and is on target to be the no. 7 top brand this year. Its a Chinese company but with significant foreign ownership lead by Warren Buffet of Berkshire. That is why they are no. 3 car brand in terms of capitalization just behind Tesla and Toyota.
ReplyDeleteThe only problem is that 180km/h top speed, aside from it being a chinese car
