All attention over at Nissan may have been at the Nissan Z Nismo, but the brand also previewed two vehicles that will hit showrooms real soon: the X-Trail e-Power and the Magnite.
Though made available way back in 2020 (it was actually refreshed last year too), the X-Trail may now have the powertrain to help it stand out of the compact SUV crowd. Like the Kicks e-Power, the X-Trail features an all-electric drive with a gasoline engine serving as a power generator.
Unlike the Kicks though, the X-Trail uses Nissan’s Variable Compression (VC) Turbo engine as the generator. The 1.5-liter 3-cylinder KR15DDT and its VC-Turbo system allows this compact SUV to offer improved energy generation at both low- and high-loads. It also keeps the engine operation as quiet as possible (reduced by 3 decibels, according to Nissan).
The main driving force is provided by an all-electric motor dubbed BM46. This new motor develops 203 horsepower (150 kW) and 320 Nm of torque.
In the case of all-wheel drive variant, the e-4orce all-wheel drive technology also applies a dual motor setup to provide traction to all four wheels. In this case, the front-mounted BM46 is paired with the rear-mounted MM48 to provide an extra 135 horsepower and 195 Nm of torque (214 horsepower combined). Plus, by integrating chassis control technology with its dual motor setup, it raises driving performance and confidence on a wide variety of road surfaces.
The X-Trail e-Power also gains e-Power Step which reduces the need to apply the brakes by providing deceleration when the accelerator pedal is released. The function provides increased comfort and a smoother drive on city roads, slippery surfaces, and downhill slopes.
Meanwhile, following up on the news that the Magnite will be exported from India, Nissan used PIMS to show off the refreshed sub-compact SUV destined for local showrooms soon.
Launched in December 2020, the name is a portmanteau of “magnetic” and “ignite.” It has helped Nissan establish a strong presence in India. Since then, it has been exported to 20 right-hand drive markets, including Indonesia. With the refreshed 2025 Magnite, Nissan will expand its export to cover left-hand drive markets too, representing an additional 45 markets starting in 2025. This makes India an import export hub for the Japanese brand.
The 2025 Magnite’s robust exterior styling continues with the new honeycomb grille and completed by the LED lights at the front and rear, dual-tone 16-inch alloy wheels, and load-bearing roof rails. It also a particularly high ground clearance of 205 mm.
Inside, the new Magnite adds a configurable TFT driver display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, for seamless smartphone integration, as well as a wireless smartphone charger. Additionally, innovative new features include remote engine start, walk away lock and approach unlock functions, cooled glove box storage, and an on-board air ionizer.
Like before, the Magnite is powered by a turbocharged 1.0-liter engine, offering the optimum balance of fuel economy and responsive performance. The HRA0 engine produces 100 horsepower and 160 Nm of torque—providing up to 50 percent better acceleration compared to normally aspirated engines in its class. It can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or X-tronic continuously variable transmission. A 1.0-liter normally-aspirated engine (B4D) is also available and this one is mated to either a 5-speed manual or automated manual transmission (AMT).
Despite its compact dimensions, the Magnite can accommodate five passengers thanks to its generous wheelbase, making it ideal for urban mobility. This urban focus is enhanced further with the inclusion of a 360-degree camera ensuring parking in tight spaces is a low-stress exercise.
