Remember the eVX Concept that Suzuki Auto Philippines brought into the Philippine International Motor Show? Apparently, it’ll now spawn a Toyota version as the two automakers strengthened their collaboration further to cover battery electric vehicles too.
The yet-to-be-named Toyota SUV (likely based on the Urban SUV Concept in the lead photo), it will be manufactured at Suzuki Motor Gujarat in India starting from early 2025.
The Suzuki and Toyota partnership seems to make sense since both carmakers have their roots in Enshu, the western part of Shizuoka Prefecture. Both companies also took on the challenge of switching their businesses from looms to automobiles.
Since 2016, the two carmakers have engaged in a wide-ranging collaboration that resulted in vehicles produced, supplied, and launched not just in Japan but in India, Europe, Africa, and Middle East as well.
However, this new development marks the first BEV in the OEM relationship between the two companies. Best part? It will be launched worldwide, providing a BEV choice even in the SUV market, which is showing remarkable growth.
This eVX Concept will spawn a production model that’s designed from a ground-up as a BEV. It promises sharp driving characteristics, ample range, and a comfortable cabin. It will also be made available with a 4WD system, offering exceptional drivability on rough roads and a more powerful driving performance.
The BEV unit and platform adopted for this model were jointly developed by Suzuki, Toyota, and Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd.
