The Omoda 5 Is The Futuristic Crossover You Can Buy Today

After a year of careful planning, Omoda & Jaecoo is finally ready to launch in the Philippines. Their first models? The Omoda C5 and Omoda E5.

Coming to showrooms soon, these vehicles are beyond your usual cookie cutter SUVs. Designed with “Cross F Future” in mind, it means two things: Cross from Future which denotes its futuristic appearance and execution, and Cross for Future which calls out its future-proof technology and features.

Futuristic Looks and Appeal

The Art in Motion design of the Omoda C5 and Omoda E5 calls out a truly advanced aesthetic. The Omoda C5 has a one-piece star diamond grille, while the Omoda E5 has a blanked-out design that integrates the charging port. Either way, they’re sandwiched by the compound headlight design with T-shaped LED daytime running lights. At the back, the X-through Type taillights give it a unique signature at night. Its fastback shape, floating roof, and 18-inch alloy wheels (aero pattern on the Omoda E5) all contribute to giving a youthful vibe.

For the Philippine market, the Omoda C5 and E5 will be offered in seven colorways—Spiritual Silver, Phantom Gray, Fantasy Green, Dark Blue, Dark Black, Vanilla Blue, and Khaki White. On the Omoda C5, it has standard red accents on the body panels and wheels.

Power and Control

The Omoda C5 comes with a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine with 156 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. Mated to a 9-speed CVT, this Dual Variable Valve Timing (DVVT)-equipped engine returns up to 13.69 km/L. Its two driving modes—Eco and Sport—allows drivers to seamlessly select between fuel efficiency or performance at the touch of a button. The Sport mode even optimizes the CVT’s virtual shift points and steering effort.

Meanwhile, the Omoda E5 comes with a single electric motor with 201 horsepower and 340 Nm of torque giving it a 0 to 100 km/h time of 7.2 seconds and a top speed of 172 km/h. Equipped with a 61-kWh Lithium-Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, it can go beyond 430 kilometers (442.7 kms) between charges, as certified by the Automobile Association of the Philippines. It can be charged from 30 to 80 percent in just 28 minutes using a DC fast charger, or up to 8 hours using an AC charger.

Advanced In-Car Tech

In the Omoda C5 and Omoda E5, its advanced technology starts even before you enter the cabin. With its Smart Key with Remote Engine Start function, drivers can pre-cool the cabin from up to 30 meters away ensuring optimal cabin temperature even before entering. Upon approach, these SUVs put on a light show including a logo projection that doubles as a puddle light.

Inside, dual screens house the digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen. In the Omoda C5, it measures at 10.25 inches each, while in the Omoda E5, it’s even larger with a dual screen size of 12.3 inches each. In both cases, they’re slightly canted to the driver providing better comfort and reduced fatigue.

A 64-color ambient lighting system offers a degree of customizability. It can even be made to sync with the selected drive mode or with the current tune playing on the high-fidelity audio system.

On the Omoda E5, a special wood panel dashboard, front armrest console with built-in cooling, and vanity mirror with ring-style lighting connote its special attention to detail.

Power seats with 6-way adjustment for the driver and 4-way for the front passenger come with built-in ventilation. Once turned on, it quickly dissipates heat from the hip area. This is on top of the dual zone climate control system with rear passenger vents.

In addition, intuitive Intelligent Voice Control makes the tech easy to use. Powered by an 8155 Qualcomm chip, this allows for quick access to some of the Omoda C5 and Omoda E5’s functions such as the climate control, sunroof, driver assistance functions, and even drive modes—all without requiring an internet connection.

Wireless smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard, as is a 50-watt wireless charger, and an 8-speaker Sony sound system.

The Omoda C5 managed to earn a full five-star safety rating from the European, Australasian, and ASEAN New Car Assessment Program. It scores highly not just in adult and child occupancy protection, but thanks to its Advanced Driver Assistance System, it makes for one of the safest crossovers in its segment.

In the interest of safety, the Omoda E5 has gone a step further. The battery itself already has a cover shield and is IP68 water and dust resistant. Beyond that, engineers put it through a series of safety “torture” tests too. These include a water-wading test where three-fourths of the vehicle’s front was submerged in water without any leaks or electrical issues, and a bottom scraping test where a metal post 210 mm high scraped through the battery to ensure structural integrity.

Designed for the young and young at heart, the Omoda C5 has a 7-year or 200,000-kilometer bumper-to-bumper warranty and a 10-year or 1,000,000-kilometer engine warranty. On the other hand, the Omoda E5 has an 8-year or 200,000-kilometer warranty for the EV battery and motor. Omoda owners also gain access to the O Universe—an exclusive fan community of “Omoders” that offers special perks and privileges.
