Lexus Debuts New 2025 ES Sedan

Despite the market’s shift to crossovers and SUVs, Lexus is not giving up on its ES mid-sized sedan. The seventh-generation Lexus ES just received a wealth of updates six years after it was first launched in 2018.

Outside, the 2025 Lexus ES gets a grille treatment that’s reminiscent of the Lexus LM and RX. The waterfall grille is now replaced with a seamless design that transitions from body-colored to open via a series of inserts. The headlights have also been updated with dual “L” signatures as are the air inlets. At the back, the same L graphic is found in the taillights which also happens to get a full-width light bar. The “L” badge is also gone, replaced by the “Lexus” script.

More changes are found inside with a new center console. The touchscreen is now larger—14 inches (from 12.3). Moreover, it gains dual rotary dials that control the climate control. The larger screen means a redesign of the center air vents as well as a part of the dashboard.

Features include a 7-inch digital instrument cluster; a choice of walnut wood or bamboo inserts; semi-aniline leather seats with memory, heating, and ventilation; rear seat heating; a panoramic sunroof; the Lexus Climate Concierge climate control system; and a 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system.

Mechanically, the 2025 Lexus ES remains identical to before.

Two variants are offered in China: the ES 200 is powered by a 2.0-liter M20A-FKS naturally-aspirated and direct-injected four-cylinder engine mated to a Direct Shift CVT. This one produces 173 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and 206 Nm of torque from 4,600 to 5,500 rpm.

Meanwhile, the ES 300h receives a larger 2.5-liter A25B-FXS Atkinson-cycle engine with 178 horsepower at 5,700 rpm and 221 Nm from 3,600 to 5,200 rpm. This is supplemented to a pair of electric motors (120 horsepower and 202 Nm) for a combined total of 218 horsepower.

  1. If I am in the market for an executive sedan, I would rather buy the Camry as it is almost as good at a lower price though it would not have the more coveted badge.
