Nissan has reached a production milestone surrounding its serial hybrid system, e-Power. Sold in 68 markets around the world, global production has surpassed the 1.52 million mark—a feat it has managed in less than 10 years.
Utilizing their battery electric vehicle know-how from the Leaf, the e-Power uses a small capacity gasoline engine and lithium-ion battery to power an electric motor. The electric motor alone provides tractive effort. The result is an EV-like driving experience.
Nissan first launched e-Power in 2016 with the Note e-Power. Since then, it’s rolled out the technology to more models such as the Kicks, X-Trail, and even the Serena MPV. In 2018, the Note e-Power became the best-selling car in Japan overtaking the Prius. By 2023, 42.6 percent of all Nissan vehicles sold in Japan had e-Power technology. Cumulatively, the carmaker managed to move 1,170,000 e-Power vehicles.
In China, e-Power became available in 2021 with the Sylphy. After its expansion to the X-Trail compact SUV, they managed to hit cumulative production of 60,000 units.
Meanwhile, in the Philippines, e-Power was launched in 2022 with the Kicks e-Power. The Kicks e-Power managed to become the best-selling compact crossover, beating the Toyota Corolla Cross in the same year. In 2024, in an industry-first, Nissan Philippines retroactively extended the Kicks e-Power warranty as a testament to its commitment behind the tech. By 2025, the technology will be rolled out with the return of the X-Trail.
In Europe, e-Power versions of the X-Trail and Qashqai SUVs were launched in 2022. Since then, more than 140,000 units have been sold there.
Nissan plans to launch e-Power in the United States and Canada by the end of 2026.
Proud owner of Kicks e-power. Fuel efficient (13.5km/L) pure NCR driving, smooth, comfortable & very torquey. Excited for the upcoming Xtrail. Hopefully Nissan Philippines price it at around 2M or below especially for the FWD version.
