September 2024 New Car Sales Hold Steady As Chinese Brands Take 5.44 Percent Market Share


New vehicle sales remained steady last September, moving a total of 39,542 units. This is a one percent growth compared to the 39,155 units sold in August and a 2.4 percent growth (38,628) compared to September 2023. This is according to the joint report of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers, Inc. and the Truck Manufacturers Association (CAMPI-TMA).

Toyota remained the best-selling auto brand last September, taking a 46.62 percent market share with 18,434 units sold. Following it in second place is Mitsubishi with 19.01 percent (7,515), Ford with 6.26 percent (2,477), Nissan with 5.19 percent (2,052 units), and Suzuki with 4.51 percent (1,784 units).

Sales of Chinese brands remained steady with a 5.44 percent of total market share despite Geely pulling out of CAMPI. MG remains the dominant Chinese brand with a 2.41 percent market share. They are also the only Chinese brand to squeeze into the Top 10 best-selling brands for the month.

Newly-minted Ferrari distributor, Velocita Motors Philippines also happened to report their first sales. Starting July, the luxury sportscar maker has managed to move a total of nine units already (four in July, one in August, and another four in September).

Aside from Ferrari, other brands that performed well versus August 2024 sales include BMW (+35 percent), Jaguar Land Rover (+77 percent), and Mazda (+27 percent). On the other hand, those that saw the biggest declines include Nissan (-16 percent), Foton (-10 percent), and Peugeot (-31 percent).

Here’s the breakdown for September 2024:

  4. Nissan – 2,052 units (5.19%)
  5. Suzuki – 1,784 units (4.51%)
  6. Isuzu – 1,483 units (3.75%)
  7. Honda – 1,231 units (3.11%)
  8. Hyundai – 1,007 units (2.55%)
  9. MG – 951 units (2.41%)
  10. Kia – 651 units (1.65%)
  11. Foton – 317 units (0.8%)
  12. GAC Motor – 310 units (0.78%)
  13. Chery – 213 units (0.54%)
  14. Hino – 196 units (0.5%)
  15. Jetour – 191 units (0.48%)
  16. Mazda – 181 units (0.46%)
  17. Fuso – 135 units (0.34%)
  18. JMC – 89 units (0.23%)

Despite the relatively flat growth during the past few months, for the first three quarters of the year—January to September 2024, CAMPI-TMA has reported a 9.4 percent growth in new car sales. So far, 344,307 units have been sold this year, compared to the 314,843 units the same period a year ago.

Commercial Vehicle sales picked up by eight percent to 253,542 units as of end-September from 234,834 units in the same period last year, while Passenger Car sales grew 13.4 percent to 90,765 units from 80,009 units in the same period in 2023.

Meanwhile, for the first nine months of the year, the share of Chinese brands remained steady at 5.42 percent. This figure includes the sales of Geely from January to June 2024.

After nine months, this is how new car sales have shaped up so far:

  9. MG – 6,447 units (1.87%)
  10. Kia – 4,381 units (1.27%)

  12. GAC Motor – 2,511 units (0.73%)
  13. Chery – 2,254 units (0.65%)
  14. Geely – 2,128 units (0.62%)
  15. Mazda – 1,754 units (0.51%)

  17. Jetour – 1,276 units (0.37%)
  18. Fuso – 991 units (0.29%)

    1. Subaru, BYD are not members of CAMPI. BYD isn't a member of AVID also (the rival group) so it's hard to get a hard grasp on what their exact sales figures are.

  4. Geely will join another association where geely, rusi, racal, harabas, fierra, anfra, and lynk and co. Wherein they get 169% of the market.

  5. Isuzu is still alive as they continue to sell that underpowered,outdated,unsafe and overpriced Traviz 💩
    Suzuki continues to sell overpriced tincans like the S Presso,Ertiga,Carry,APV,DZire and Jimny 💩
    Swift and Celerio are axed as Suzuki stopped importing newer stocks of those hard to sell vehicles
