ACMobility, Meralco Partner For U.P. Town Center Charging Hub

ACMobility opens its latest charging hub at the U.P. Town Center in Quezon City. Recognized as one of the few cities in Metro Manila actively committed to sustainability, Quezon City serves as a prime location for ACMobility to demonstrate how electric mobility can transform urban communities.

“We are thrilled to deepen our commitment to sustainability by expanding our network in a pivotal location like U.P. Town Center, which serves as a bustling hub for many Filipinos – from students, professionals, and the commuting public — right at the heart of Quezon City,” said Jaime Alfonso Zobel de Ayala, CEO of ACMobility. “With the growing adoption of electric vehicles in the Philippines, we aim to make EV charging more accessible and convenient for everyone. This station is another milestone in our mission to scale the country’s charging infrastructure, helping to accelerate the transition to cleaner and greener mobility options.”

Located along Katipunan Avenue, the U.P. Town Center charging hub is in close proximity to top universities like the University of the Philippines (U.P.), Ateneo de Manila University, and Miriam College, making it easily accessible to students, faculty, and commuters. Its prime location ensures high foot traffic, helping drive EV adoption and promoting sustainable transportation for private and public users.

The station features six vehicle slots and is equipped with one 120-kW DC fast charger and four AC chargers—two 22-kW and two 7-kW. It caters to a wide range of EVs, from private cars to public utility vehicles (PUVs) such as e-jeepneys and electric shuttles. This setup reflects ACMobility’s commitment to making EV charging accessible to all, including supporting the electrification of public transport.

The launch of the U.P. Town Center Charging Hub is also the the first project in cooperation with Meralco, ACMobility’s partner in providing the energy infrastructure for future hubs across the country. This partnership accelerates the rollout of more charging stations in strategic locations, with plans for more sites across Metro Manila and various parts of the country.

To emphasize the message of sustainability and the transformative role of electrified mobility in fostering a cleaner environment, the U.P. Town EV Charging Hub is adorned with a stunning mural by Professor Toym Imao and his team of talented students from the College of Fine Arts of the University of the Philippines. Embodying the battle cry of “charging forward,” this centerpiece captures both the spirit of progress and innovation while celebrating Katipunan Avenue's vibrant stories and history.

The U.P. Town Center Charging Hub is part of ACMobility’s ambitious expansion plans to establish over 200 charging points in approximately 100 locations nationwide by the end of 2024.

“Quezon City stands out as one of the few Metro Manila cities actively championing sustainability, from implementing solar power at City Hall to supporting the transition to electrified mobility,” said Carla Buencamino, Head of Mobility Infrastructure at ACMobility. “We are proud to work with Quezon City to make electric mobility accessible to more people and to contribute to cleaner transport solutions for the city.”

Like other ACMobility chargers located in Metro Manila, it will entail a fee when using starting December 12, 2024. The rates will be P 28.50 per kWh for AC charging and P 35 per kWh for DC charging.
