Mazda Details 2025 MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition

After its preview at the Mazda Fan Festa 2024 at Fuji Speedway, Mazda has released more details surrounding its Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition models.

Since the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition is not a limited quantity model, but rather, a limited production period model, each market gets varying number of units available to them. For the Japanese market, a total of 1,000 units—split between the soft top and RF—will be made available. For the Australian market, another market that’s confirmed to get the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition, will get just 50 units (only soft top).

Customer reservations are now open in both Japan and Australia. Allocations are expected to run out by the first quarter of 2025.

The United States has also announced that it will be getting the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition, but details will only be revealed on January 24, 2025.

The MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition aims to capture a feeling of maturity with a hint of vintage. As such, they’ve decided to color it in Artisan Red Premium Metallic, the fourth special paint in Mazda’s Takuminuri palette. Used on the MX-5 for the first time, it’s meant to evoke the look of finely-aged wine thanks to its solid color depth and high contrast.

The new color aside, the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition also has a serialized ornament located by the rear fenders and high-gloss 17-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition boasts of a tan Nappa leather interior with the “35th Anniversary Edition” embossed on the headrests. The same tan shade is used for the floor mats and as contrast stitching on the steering wheel, shifter, and parking brake.

As a dealer option, the selective key shell will also be colored in Artisan Red Premium Metallic to match the exterior shade.

Mechanically, the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition remains unchanged. It’s powered by a 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine with 184 horsepower and 205 Nm of torque. The 6-speed manual version receives two new handling-related technologies: DSC-Track and Asymmetric Limited Slip Differential or A-LSD. The 6-speed automatic is an available option in Japan, but not in Australia for this special edition model.

Other detail changes to the 2025 MX-5 line-up include the discontinuation of Zircon Sand Metallic as an available color. Wireless Apple CarPlay is now standard across the entire range, including the entry-level variant, while variants equipped with cloth seats now get them in a cloth/suede combination.

Although it’s been confirmed to arrive in the country, Mazda Philippines has yet to confirm just how many units of the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition will be made available and in what configuration. Stay tuned for more updates regarding this.

  1. I do not know why, but to be honest, Mazda in the past had been always outnumbered by Ford in sales in other countries worldwide.

And the Miata is RWD too.

  2. I hope next generation MX-5 will look more retro than futuristic. Retro styling ages so well. Futuristic designs don't look so good in the long run.
