Mazda Spirit Racing To Make Production Debut At 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon

At the Tokyo Auto Salon 2024, Mazda officially launched its motorsports brand, Mazda Spirit Racing with a pair of show cars. These two, a soft top MX-5 and a Mazda3, made the rounds including an appearance at the Mazda Fan Festa. At the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon, Mazda is finally ready to offer it for commercial release as a special model.

Mazda is reserving all the nitty-gritty details for the show itself, but based on the photos, it is quite like the Mazda Spirit Racing RS Concept the brand showed last time. Based on the MX-5 soft top, it gets a wrap-around body kit and high-gloss 17-inch alloy wheels. Differentiating it from the concept version, it now has a subtle rear spoiler. No word if it’ll get the Concept’s single exit muffler.

No photos of the interior are available too, but if it’ll be similar to the concept, the Mazda Spirit Racing MX-5 (let’s call it that for now), will have tons of Ultrasuede inside in the form of the lower dashboard, shifter, hand brake, and steering wheel (with a red center position indicator). It will also sport Recaro racing bucket seats finished in Ultrasuede.

From the get-go, Mazda has eliminated the possibility of the MX-5 receiving more power, but it will sport handling upgrades courtesy of a modified suspension whose target is better controllability, especially for track use.

All in all, the Mazda Spirit Racing MX-5 sounds a lot like the return of the MX-5 Club Edition—the MX-5’s top variant which was discontinued during its latest refresh. There’s no word if Mazda will offer the various Mazda Spirit Racing parts aftermarket, or whether they’ll only be selling whole cars.

Now, if you can’t afford the car, but have money for the merch, Mazda is also coming to the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon with Mazda Spirit Racing driving shoes, chronograph, and various apparel which can be purchased on the spot. They will also preview their very own driving sunglasses as well.
