BYD is expecting its global sales to push beyond 4.25 million passenger vehicles (the final tally is 4,272,145 units), pushing it ever closer to Tesla as the world’s best-selling EV maker of 2024. This marks a 41.3 percent year-on-year sales increase compared to 2023. Broken down, the tally is made up of 1,764,992 BEVs; 2,485,378 PHEVs; and 21,775 commercial vehicles.
Spurred by increased government subsidies and more consumer incentives, BYD sold 509,440 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery electric (BEV) passenger vehicles last December. It managed to export 57,154 units.
This strong performance will help cement BYD as one of the top-selling carmakers globally. Its total sales put it close to beating Ford and Honda on an annual basis. Higher sales will tip the company’s annual revenue over USD 100 billion for the first time.
BYD’s gains have been fueled by domestic Chinese sales and aided in the second half of the year by increased government subsidies to convince drivers to ditch gasoline cars.
On the flip side, its target to sell about half-a-million vehicles outside China has fallen short of expectations. Regardless, the 417,204 units sold represents a 72 percent year on year growth.
BYD sold 207,734 BEVs last December, taking its annual BEV sales tally to 1.76 million. Based on these results, it will fall shy of surpassing Tesla in annual sales.
So far, BYD has trailed Tesla in quarterly sales in 2024. By the third quarter, BYD had sold 1.16 million EVs, lagging Tesla by 124,100 units. This gap, however, will narrow in the last quarter thanks to a sales surge. Tesla, however, will still come out ahead which is expected to reach 1.81 million deliveries in 2024.
Very informative👍👍👍
ReplyDeleteByd involved in slave labor according to Brazilian authorities. Even Brazil who is a member of Brics and a ally of China cannot stand the labor practices of Chinese companies.. No wonder byd cars cheaper compared to competition.
ReplyDeleteDid you see the response of the said victims? There is no truth to this.
DeleteNice one byd! Keep rising up!
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I think Tesla could shift to making cars that are only powered by internal combustion engines if only there were chances of seeking partnerships between Elon Musk's company and those who still build automobiles that are equipped by ICEs. For examples are India's Tata and Mahindra.
ReplyDeleteBYD Sealion 6 already made a huge dent on the sales of the DNGA Yaris Cross and TNGA old Corolla Cross
ReplyDeleteSales of BYD vehicles in Thailand and other countries are doing very well too
BYD Atto 2 and Denza minivan are gonna be launched and sold in the Philippines sometime this year
Your dreaming boy😴😴😴 you see despite adding many more china car brands here, adding many dealerships, china car brands market share almost stagnant. Byd just cannibalized sales of its comrades.
DeleteDenza will entrance will be interesting. They are owned by BYD and Mercedez Benz. The Philippine Luxury market will have a rude awakening with the capabilities of these vehicles.
DeleteSubsidies is the secret sauce
ReplyDeleteWithout a doubt. China's government are in a full force supporting their local automakers.
DeleteDoes BYD plan on becoming #1 best-selling automakers like Toyota?
ReplyDeleteStandard china playbook: subsidized its industries/products, sell to otherr countries below cost to destroy other countries industries and then dominate. But the world naive no more, EU, USA, jpan, korea etc putting tariff barrier left and right. They cut off china's access to latest chips/chips making equipments, they cut off huawei tentacles, put up tariff barrier against china EV's and so on...
ReplyDeleteTariff barriers will not harm Chinese car makers, it will be absorbed by the importing country not China. You are depriving the consumers of freedom of choice. Consider also the leverage of China, they will also put counter measures to this curtailment. tariff in the US protects the big 3 automakers at expense of farmers who are having a difficult time selling their crops to China.
Deleteit already greatly harmed china, foreign companies leaving china in droves in favor of vietnam, thailand, malaysia, india to avoid tarrifs. Before its made in china for the world, now its made in china for CHINA MARKET ONLY and made in other countries for the rest of the world. China jobless at all time high, masters graduates work as waiters just to have income. Apple products used to be manufactured only in china, but now being manufactured in vietnam, india and soon indonesia, and so for other companies.
DeleteBYD sales for 2024 worldwide is 4,25M with 1.76M BEVs (full electric) and 2.49M PHEV. They will be neck and neck with Honda and Ford for the top 3 spot behind Toyota and VW. Their sales is 10x bigger this year compared to 2019 when they are only no. 49 in the world. They sold 3M+ last 2023 good for no. 9.
ReplyDeleteI read the news horrible things being done to BYD workers. At least those who support gets to buy cheap cars at their conscience expense
ReplyDeleteIs your conscience clear typing your comment from a device powered by lithium mined by Chinese slave laborers. What a hypocrite.
DeleteIphone uses chinese laborers paid well. Byd uses forced labor treated like sh..! Big difference
DeleteSeeing a lot of Atto 3s in Ayala Malls, some Sealion 6s here and there, and the occassional Seagulls, rare Dolphins, but wala pang Seal 5 masyado.
ReplyDeleteSeal 5 deliveries haven't started yet.
DeleteMeanwhile tesla sold 657k cars in china 2024, an increase of 9% vs 2023
