Mazda has announced that it will produce battery packs for its new battery electric vehicle at a new plant in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. It will have an annual capacity of 10 GWh.
The completed battery packs will be installed in Mazda’s EV that uses a dedicated EV platform. Like its batteries, it will be manufactured at a Mazda vehicle plant in Japan.
Under its 2030 plan, Mazda is steadily preparing for electrification technologies based on a multi-solution strategy that provides a variety of technological options to meet customer needs and regulatory changes, in order to contribute to solving the social issue of curbing global warming.
In the field of batteries, one of the key components of electrified vehicles, the company signed an agreement with Panasonic in 2023 to procure cylindrical lithium-ion batteries for automotive use. Later, the plan was expanded to battery production and technology development.
The partnership will help Mazda provide unique BEVs that’s inline with their “Joy of Driving” vision by offering a high level of design, convenience, and driving range.
Honestly, why can't revive the idea of putting diesel engines in front wheel drive passenger cars when EVs are already trending? And, that's it.
