BYD isn’t having a good hump day, The world’s New Energy Vehicle (NEV) leader just took their gloves off and delivered a jab at both Mercedes-Benz and Audi in a single Facebook post.

The post (cleaned up) is seen above, while the full post as it appears below. In it, it shows the BYD Seal sports sedan zooming ahead of what looks like the Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology doing its trademark “G-Turn.”

The G 580 with EQ Technology or G 580 EQ (for the sake of simplicity)’s G-Turn allows it to rotate while stationary, using its four independently driven wheels. One of the conditions of the function is that only two complete turns can be done before the feature is deactivated. In the ad, the resulting pavement markings result in the Audi four-rings logo. Talk about a double burn.

And to reiterate their point, the caption reads: “While you both keep running in circles, we plan to lead the way.”

Damn.

Mercedes-Benz and Audi made headlines recently as they’ve delayed their EV-only plans due to slowing BEV sales in Europe. Originally slated to become an all-electric brand by 2030, Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that they will continue to develop both combustion engine and hybrid vehicles well into the next decade. The same goes for Audi which is delaying the roll out of their EVs. Audi has now preferred to stay “flexible” pushing back its all-EV deadline. They’ve even gone so far as to re-orient their product naming convention to accommodate its next-generation combustion and hybrid offerings.

Thankfully, the offending photo doesn’t come courtesy of ACMobility, which distributes BYD Cars in the Philippines. Rather, it comes BYD Bangladesh. BYD officially entered Bangladesh in March 2024.

BYD Cars Philippines sold 4,780 units in 2024, making it the 11th best-selling vehicle brand. The Chinese brand now commands an 82 percent share of the Philippine New Energy Vehicle (HEV, PHEV, and BEV) sales.

  1. Flexibility is the key for survival. Toyota cover all bases: ICE, HYBRIDS, EV's, HYDROGENS
