Is Hyundai Motor PH Launching The Staria Hybrid? Looks Like It

Share this on:

It looks like Hyundai Motor Philippines is adding a new member of their hybrid family soon. Appearing in LTO documents is the Hyundai Staria Hybrid which could join the Santa Fe Hybrid and Tucson Hybrid in the Korean automaker’s increasingly electrified line-up locally.

Based on the filings (check it out below), the new Staria Lounge variant will come in a 7-seater configuration (2+2+3). Exterior dimensions will be the same as the current diesel-fed Staria (5,255 mm in length, 1,995 mm in width, and 1,990 mm in height). Net capacity is listed at 570 kilograms, while the gross vehicle weight is 2,880 kilograms.

The major change would be the powerplant under the hood. Out goes the 2.2-liter diesel and in comes a 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder. The combustion engine alone puts 180 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 265 Nm of torque at 1,500 to 4,500 rpm, but because it’s supplemented by an electric motor putting out 73 horsepower (54 kW) and 304 Nm of torque, the combined outputs jump up to 245 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 367 Nm of torque. This is paired to a 6-speed automatic.

Hyundai says that this 270-volt system strong parallel hybrid system ensures a smooth, responsive drive. No fuel economy figures were listed, but over in South Korea, the Staria Hybrid is listed as capable of achieving 13.5 km/L in the city, 11.6 km/L on the highway, and 12.6 km/L combined. Naturally, since it’s recognized as a hybrid, it will gain all the benefits associated including being exempt from number coding.

Of course, at this point, Hyundai Motor Philippines has yet to officially announce the Staria Lounge Hybrid’s launch. But, the likely timeline would be at the Manila International Auto Show in April.

  1. I would still trust the 2.2 diesel to last longer and simpler to maintain.
