JMC Philippines, under Astara, is set to expand its lineup by introducing EVs locally. Currently, the company offers two pickups, the Grand Avenue and Vigus, designed to meet the needs of customers in the growing pickup segment. The addition of electric vehicles (EVs) reflects the brand’s commitment to providing sustainable and eco-friendly mobility solutions for Filipino consumers.
In global markets such as China and Europe, JMC has made notable progress in offering vehicles that are both efficient and environmentally friendly. As sustainability becomes an increasing priority in the Philippines, JMC aims to contribute to this shift by adding more eco-conscious options to its portfolio.
Although JMC Philippines didn’t divulge details yet, they did say that they’re “preparing to launch models that reflect its forward-thinking vision for the future of mobility.” This points to the possibility of seeing not just one, but a handful of BEVs heading to JMC showrooms.
One of these possible vehicles is an all-electric version of its Grand Avenue pickup truck. If that’s the case, the Grand Avenue EV features an electric motor co-developed with Bosch delivering 244 horsepower and 385 Nm of torque. This gives a 0 to 100 km/h time of 8.6 seconds. Meanwhile, the 88.02-kWh battery, sourced from CATL, can be charged from 30 to 80 percent in just 30 minutes. It goes 423 kilometers between charges.
Another possibility is JMC’s dedicated EV sub-brand, JMEV. Checking online, these could either point to the JMC EV3 or the JMC E-Light. The EV3 is a sub-compact hatchback with a 49 horsepower, 140 Nm of torque permanent magnet synchronous motor. Its modest 31.9-kWh battery helps it go up to 302 kilometers between charges. On the other hand, the JMC E-Light is a stylish compact sedan offering 160 horsepower and 225 Nm of torque on the sole variant being offered with the CCS Type 2 charging port. Its 63-kWh battery means a 500-kilometer range.
With this announcement from JMC, it’s likely that the brand’s first BEV models will be shown at the Manila International Auto Show in April.
