Nissan Releases Official Statement On Fate Of Terra, Navara Assembly Plant

Share this on:

Nissan has clarified statements coming from president and CEO Makoto Uchida during its investors briefing yesterday, particularly when it comes to its Thailand assembly operations.

To recall, during the investors briefing, Uchida mentioned that they will begin consolidating vehicle assembly globally in a bid to improve its cash position. The plans include the closure of its Thailand plant as well as two others. It will also mean shift reductions and consolidations at two U.S. plants.

However, in a statement, Nissan Philippines has clarified that only one of two plants—Nissan Plant #1 will be closed, while Plant #2 will remain in operation. In fact, Plant #2 will undergo line upgrades starting the first quarter of fiscal year 2025. Meanwhile, Plant #1 will be converted into a body and press shop as well as a logistics hub.

Currently, the Nissan Samut Prakan Plant #1 produces the Almera and Kicks e-Power, while Samut Prakan Plant #2 produces the Terra and Navara. With this move, Nissan Philippines will still have access to all current nameplates.

Here’s the statement in full.
As part of Nissan’s global turnaround measures and ongoing business transformation in ASEAN and Thailand, Nissan is consolidating part of vehicle production in Thailand's Plant #1 to Plant #2 and upgrading the lines starting from Q1 FY2025.

This effort aims to optimize fixed costs as well as prepare for future model localization in Thailand.

Plant Line #1 will be closed for vehicle assembly and the facility will be used for body and press shops and operations logistics.

Thailand will remain a key market for Nissan in Southeast Asia, and the company continue its commitment to grow its business and brand in ASEAN and Thailand markets.

  3. As for the US/NorthAm market, Nissan was all flair but no form. Their cars might look good on the outside, but the vehicle parts and after-sales service are crappy. They should have seen this fiasco coming since 5yrs ago. Maybe it is their company culture to wait and see before doing any drastic improvements to turn things around... but maybe, just maybe, they are 25 minutes too late!

  4. Most people lost trust in Nissan because of their crappy CVTs which were guaranteed to fail after five years.

  5. Glad to know the clarification as everyone was confused on the fate of the Nissan Thailand plant, but atleast the topic is now laid to rest.

  6. Nissan will eventually cease the production of Terra and Navara next year in Thailand as the next generation Navara will share the plant as the Mitsubishi Triton.
Nissan Kicks is still in production as Nissan Thailand still continues to export in Japan and Philippines
