Pop quiz: what was the best-selling 1.5-liter sub-compact sedan in 2024? If you’re thinking the Honda City or Toyota Vios, you get zero points. Apparently, both market stalwarts have now been overthrown by an unlikely rival, the MG 5.
Enroute to its record 9,016 units sold in 2024 (enough for ninth in industry sales), MG Motor Philippines says they sold 3,415 units of the MG 5. This is enough to make it the best-selling 1.5-liter sub-compact sedan in the country.
Here is how the market is broken down:
- MG 5 - 3,415 units (41.1 percent)
- Honda City - 3,279 units (39.5 percent)
- Changan Alsvin - 180 units (2.2 percent)
- Toyota Vios - 139 units (1.7 percent)
When the entire B-segment is taken into account, here is how the picture looks like:
- Toyota Vios - 43,629 units (84.2 percent)
- MG 5 - 3,415 units (6.6 percent)
- Honda City - 3,279 units (6.3 percent)
- Nissan Almera - 785 units (1.5 percent)
- Changan Alsvin - 180 units (0.3 percent)
Aside from the MG 5, the MG ZS and MG G50 Plus also contributed to the Chinese carmaker’s sales last year.
“Surpassing 9,000 units sold in a single year is a remarkable achievement for MG Motor Philippines,” said Mr. Felix Jiang, President of SAIC Motor (MG Motor) Philippines. “We are grateful to our customers, dealer partners, bank partners, and employees for their unwavering support. This success fuels our drive to deliver even more in 2025.”
MG also expanded its dealer network to a total of 46 locations. This 2025, they plan to introduce new models, open more dealerships, and expand on enhanced customer programs to elevate the ownership experience.
🤣🤣🤣
ReplyDeleteHow many Emgrands were sold last year?
ReplyDeleteGeely isn't a member of CAMPI anymore
DeleteGood thing you showed total overall sales for b segment. It seems nitpicking a category just to say they are number 1. And by the way the l300 is the number 1 seller of 2 door vehicles out pacing the miata, cyberster, mustang etc.
ReplyDeleteThe L300 is a 3-door vehicle LOL.
Deleteexactly, sounds like a paid article with all those hashtags
DeleteI really love the MG5 I am currently driving (I am a former Vios owner). The 5 is really value for money :)
ReplyDeleteWeh...di nga.
DeleteThank you for your "make up" story and we believe you.
DeleteL300 cab chassis lol
ReplyDeleteI can understand why the vios and honda sold well but damn nissan's really having a hard time selling cars with the almera.
ReplyDeleteBecause Japanese companies are impressive in marketing, to be honest.
DeleteNissan is Japanese
DeleteNissan Philippines heavily marketed the Almera but people aren't interested with its expensive price and it's small turbocharged engine
What about the Mirage G4's sales? Isn't it a B-segment sedan too?
ReplyDeleteThat one is smaller and less powerful just like the slow seller Kia Soluto
DeleteMG5 is a very affordable and value for money sedan that's why it still sells well even if its old and barely updated
ReplyDeleteVios 1.5 liter isn't worth buying as it's overpriced
Sales of Nissan Almera are low as it's also overpriced and people don't totally trust the reliability of its small turbocharged engine and CVT transmission
Mg5 will cost you more later due to repair and maintenance as it is not reliable, not durable, very low resale value. Also you will have a lot of stress and head aches from owning it. Better to buy vios, mirage, or add a little more and get the powerful honda city with standard ADAS.
DeleteMG5 is actually a very reliable car
DeleteIt's been in the Philippine market for 7 years already and I barely heard any complaints about this car
MG5 is only priced at 650K to 800k Pesos that's why its selling very well
Honda City with terrible audio head unit with steel rims at 1 Million Pesos without ADAS isn't worth buying
Mitsubishi Mirage G4 is underpowered and small aside from being bare and expensive
How did you know that MG5 will cost you more? have you ever tried it? or you just heard it to other colonial mentality fan boys?
DeleteAnony 6:18pm the two most important part of any car are the engine and transmission. is the engine and transmission proven reliable and durable? rims and head units you can change/upgrade it anytime
DeleteMany people still think more sales = good car
