Kia is quickly rolling out more electrified options. After the launch of the Carnival Turbo Hybrid 1.6 SX+ late last year (and the Sorento Turbo Hybrid shortly thereafter), a new entry-level variant, the Carnival Turbo Hybrid 1.6 EX joins the line-up for just P 2.888 million. Yes, that is the same price as the diesel.
Like the 1.6 SX+, this entry-level variant is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter that, by itself, already puts out 180 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 265 Nm from 1,500 to 4,500 rpm. But thanks to a parallel hybrid system, it puts out a combined 245 horsepower and 366.8 Nm (love the exactness of the figure). This is mated to a 6-speed automatic driving the front wheels.
Exterior-wise, the Carnival Turbo 1.6 EX echo its diesel-powered counterpart. It gets 18-inch alloy wheels with 235/60R18 tires, multi-reflector LED headlights, and a power tailgate. While inside, the it’s still pretty well-loaded with a tri-zone climate control, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a power adjustable driver’s seat.
Compared to the top-trim 1.6 SX+, it loses the chrome trim on the skid plates and door handles, the dual pane panoramic sunroof, and rain-sensing wipers outside, while in the cabin, it omits LED map lights, gloss black accents, lit glove box, wireless charger, heated steering wheel, and ventilated seats in the process.
In terms of safety, the Carnival Turbo Hybrid 1.6 EX offers a simplified set of Kia’s DriveWise system with just blind spot indicators, front & rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera as standard issue.
For colors, this new Carnival variant comes in Snowflake White Pearl and Aurora Black Pearl.
Still overpriced as HEV have 0% tariff & less 50% of excise tax
ReplyDeleteThis thing is priced 1.9M Php in South Korea, I don't know why it is priced 50% higher in the Philippines
Maybe we could ask AC motors
DeleteImport Taxes?
DeleteThe EV9 is about P2 million more here (5.9 versus 3.9 million approx.) and it's a full EV!
DeleteEV9 lowered price in Korea but seems like AC will retain its price here
DeleteEV's have 0% import tax & 0% excise tax which should translate to minimal price difference with other countries but importers increase their margin instead
They are acting superior which will eventually crumble like the Japanese cars. If they don’t shape up early, they too will perish.
ReplyDeleteIs it Kia or the local distributor that has the problem?
DeleteIf we are to compare the brand development with Toyota, I'd say it's KIA's fault. Toyota developed their reputation and their dealer network before embarking into luxury territory with Lexus. KIA on the other hand (in PH), sells multi-million peso vehicles in grubby dealerships without the corresponding customer experience. Second, as a new energy product, KIA should have set the direction for pushing a lot of EV6s and 9s to make them mainstream products, including aggressive pricing. There was a lot of buzz around these cars but unfortunately KIA didn't ride the wave and now finds itself in a market that is pushing back on EVs.
