Jaecoo Philippines’ upcoming hybrid offering, the J7, equipped with the Super Hybrid System (SHS) has had its range verified by the Automobile Association of the Philippines. On a full charge and a full tank of gas (it’s a plug-in hybrid), it can do 1,488.8 kilometers.
More than just pure efficiency, the Jaecoo J7 SHS delivers a powerful performance thanks to its combined 340 horsepower and 525 Nm of torque. The SHS allows for both electric-only drive in the city, and a gas-hybrid combination during long distance driving eliminating any range anxiety.
The J7 SHS is built on a generous 2,672 mm wheelbase, translating to a comfortable ride, while its full set of ADAS features offer an added layer of security and peace of mind.
While car manufacturers typically select routes that favor flat and fuel-efficient conditions, Jaecoo Philippines opted for a more challenging and realistic approach. Hence, the J7 SHS was tested across diverse terrains—including urban roads, highways, steep up hills and descents.
Two J7 SHS units underwent the four-day-long verification range test. They ran on full tanks of fuel and fully-charged batteries. Following the Northern Loop Route, the vehicles took off in Biñan, Laguna in full EV mode. The vehicles then transitioned to using the hybrid mode while cruising through the Ilocos Region, Cagayan, Aurora, and Nueva Ecija before arriving at a gasoline station along the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX).
Along the way, the J7 SHS units faced varied road conditions, including climbing 200 kilometers of steep uphill and downhill routes—terrains typically avoided in eco runs due to increased fuel consumption. At the end of the run, the J7 SHS managed an average of 24.4 km/L with one unit displaying 1,488.8 kilometers, while the other reached 1,480.1 kilometers.
“The J7 SHS’ AAP Verification Range highlights its superior range and performance in the world of hybrid models. This achievement amplifies our ongoing commitment to advancing sustainable automotive technologies aimed to improve the driving experience of modern drivers by setting new and world-class standards for hybrid vehicles,” said Marco Chen, Omoda and Jaecoo Motor Philippines’ Country Director.
Very impressive! Is it a 7-seater or a 5-seater? Is there an option for an AWD set-up?
