KGMobility, the automotive brand formerly known as SsangYong, has partnered with Chery Automobile to develop mid- and large-sized SUVs.
The two automakers will develop these vehicles with global markets in mind and will expand its cooperation to include fields such as autonomous driving and electrical and electronic hardware/software for its vehicles.
The first project to be born out of this is the replacement to the Rexton mid-sized SUV. The project, codenamed “SE-10” is expected to be completed by 2026.
KGM will also leverage Chery to diversify its product line-up to include offerings beyond traditional internal combustion engine vehicles. It will likely encompass PHEV and EV offerings.
KGM Chairman Jea-sun Kwak stated, “As global competition intensifies, more companies are forming partnerships to discover future growth opportunities and enhance synergy and efficiency. This collaboration with Chery aligns with that trend. By combining KGM’s 70 years of technical expertise with Chery’s global platform, we will develop into a sustainable enterprise of the future.”
Chery is not the first Chinese carmaker KGM has partnered with.
In 2023, the Korean automaker signed a deal with BYD to jointly build battery packs at a plant in the Korean city of Changwon for future electrified models.
The next generation Rexton is likely based on the Jetour T2 or that new Exeed large SUV

ReplyDeleteWho sells KGM cars in PH today? Is TCCI still in the business?
ReplyDeleteTCCCI as a company is gone. The operations of Chevrolet is now under HARIPhil. Meanwhile, KGM was stillborn. They previewed the models, brought stocks in, but it wasn't launched when HARIPhil took over TCCCI. After that, it was a quiet ride to the sunset.
