The journalists of the Women's World Car of the Year have chosen the Peugeot 308 as the World's Best Car for 2022. The announcement of the winner coincides with International Women's Day, a very special date because it gives women a voice and because of the link in many countries between the automobile and personal autonomy.

Peugeot is ditching screens and going back to old-fashioned analog gauges. This as the French automaker gets ingenious to avoid the global shortage of microchips that’s plaguing the auto industry.

After showing off their new “roaring lion” logo, the revamped Peugeot badge has made it onto its first production car: the all-new 2022 308 compact hatchback.

When Michael, my Uber driver, noticed where I was heading, he started his small talk with: how do you pronounce “Peugeot”? Eager to impart a bit of automotive trivia, I told him the proper way to say it: “POO-zho” and that if he ever needs a refresher, every dealer has a pronunciation guide stickered on the façade. Then he asked: mura ba yun? Mukha kasi silang mura eh (are they cheap? It’s because they look cheap). At that point, I thought: Ouch! If I were working for Peugeot or owned one, that comment would feel like a knife piercing through my chest. Although I could try reiterating things like how they’re filled with quirky yet intricate details and that they’re made in France and so forth; I’m simply calling on Michael to try out the new 308, be it the hatchback or wagon. Discounting the budget 301 which I abhorred, this is the first mainstream car that lives up to Peugeot’s brand values.

Since Peugeot’s re-launch in the Philippines in 2012, it’s been steadily adding new vehicles to its line-up. Now, it’s finally going back to the segment which started it all: the C-segment (compact car). Eurobrands Distributor, Inc. (EDI) is introducing the 2016 Peugeot 308 available in two body styles: hatchback and touring. Either way, they fuse function and efficiency with technological features and design.
