The Filipino car buyer is increasingly becoming picky. In the olden times, whether you wanted a basic sedan, a pick-up, or a luxury sedan, as long as it’s got four wheels, you’ll end up with a Toyota. Now, there are more than half a dozen mainstream brands, each one promising its own breed of ownership experience; be it bulletproof build or driver-centric handling. Subaru is one of these new players. After initially offering just rally-bred, turbocharged machines, Subaru is now taking their act to Main Street Manila. And today, not a day goes by without seeing at least one car with the Star of Pleiades badge upfront.

Well, all that's about to change.

Review: 2012 Chrysler 300C 3.5 Pentastar V6 8AT

Photos by Ulysses Ang
When the 300C first bowed in 2005, it brought a new-found element of menacing appeal to the executive car segment thanks to its “gangster” style. Elements such as the high shoulder line, chopped roof, and vertical grille all made it a stand out next to the soap-bar aesthetics of its competitors. Some point to Bentley influences, but owners were more than happy to embrace the ultra exclusive association. So when Chrysler had to pen the all-new 300 C, the expectations were certainly high. Can the all-new 300C break new ground while connecting would-be buyers to Chrysler’s illustrious past?

Review: 2012 King Long Univan

Photos by Ulysses Ang
With an overall length of 5.2 meters and a height of 2.25 meters, driving the King Long Univan comes with a strong warning: it won't fit in your standard mall parking. Considering the propensity of Filipinos to go "malling" in the weekends, the Univan has severely limited use. Still, that didn't stop me from taking one for a weekend spin, and exterior dimensions aside, it's a remarkably good van considering the price.
